A Song of the Railway Town

A song by "Bill Bowyangs"

Sing a song of the railway town,
Of Butcher Bryant and Barber Brown :
A rhyme or two of the old Town Clerk,
Whose "mo" was fashioned in Noah's Ark.
And "Chooky" Smith from the Workers' Club,
And Straw 'at Joe in his rub-a-dub.
In a song of the railway town.

Sing a song of the railway town,
Of prices up, but don't go down.
A bit of verse of councillors bold,
Present themselves with medals of gold.
Of "Kath" outside the barber's shop,
And Dick, M.C. at the local hop.
In the song of a railway town.

Sing a song of the railway town,
Of Peter Sampson a famous frown.
Of the unemployed upon the rail,
And Stephen Brown at his auction sale.
Of Dr. Clark repairing ills,
And T. M. Clune dispensing pills.
To a song of the railway town.

Sing a song of the railway town,
Of the Midland girls who turn you down.
Of Alf. and Gillie's picture show,
And the local lad who is far too slow.
But stop me now, or else I'll never.
Stay this rhyme (?), but go for ever
On this song of the railway town.
